The Domaine de Trevallon brought out new labels for the 1996 vintage. They are the work of René Dürrbach, Eloi Dürrbach's father, who died in Year 2000 at the age of 89. René Dürrbach, the painter and sculptor, was friends with many artists, including Fernand Léger, Robert Delaunay and Pablo Picasso. "Toward the end of his life," said Eloi Dürrbach, "my father hardly painted at all, but I asked him if he would like to work on designing the Trevallon labels, which he did.
So, I gave him 50 posters and he began drawing on them, following his inspiration, using coloured crayons. I find them highly original. Each year, we choose one of his label designs that relates in some way to the characteristics of that year's wine. The 2001 label, for example, is exuberant like the wine, and in 2003 there is something sunny about it...
These labels are a tribute to my father, who played such an important part in establishing the vines at Trevallon.
