Domaine de Trévallon rouge 2011

Trévallon is known for its long aging process, more than 2 years for its reds. Racking is kept to a strict minimum, the lees found at the bottom of the barrels continue to nourish the wine during the ageing process

Tasting Notes

On the nose it’s super complex with an explosion of garrigue composed by dry rosemary, wild thyme, wild oregano and dry sage, a floral note of dry violet, a hint of Brett follows with saddle leather and barnyard although doesn’t bother but actually adds complexity. A layer of prune, blackberries, blackcurrant with herbal notes such as blackberry leaf, pine cone, menthol, peppermint, burnt rosemary, fresh moss with an earthy note of humus attached to it and cedar. A mineral note comes up and leads me to gunflint and a pronounced scent of graphite followed by burnt cigar, tar and black peppercorns . On the palate it is elegant and smooth with super fine grain medium tannins, high intensity, juicy red and black berries, hint of liquorice and tobacco leaf, high acidity with a long finish leaving a pleasant aftertaste.

Medium purple-ruby, opens up with intense aromas of pine, blood and mushrooms, once it breathes, the cab sauv kicks in with leather and farmyard intense aromas, 1.5h after opening it displays intense black pepper and violets... such a complex wine, on palate great balance between acidity and tannins, relatively low alcohol at 12.5, intense flavors of flowers, black fruits on a medium body. Beautiful wine, needs some age, but also drinking great right now

First tasted the red at St. Remy de Provence home of Dr. Rudy Kuehne, of Zuerich, while I lived in Zuerich. This is a very good vintage & not easy to find.
